Aging Statistics

In the state of Maryland several demographic trends shape the Department of Aging's goals and priorities for service to the elderly.

The number of elderly Marylander's is increasing.  Of the nearly 5.3 million people in Maryland in 2000, 15% (801,036) were over the age of 60.  The percentage is expected to increase to 23% of Maryland's projected population of 6 million by the year 2030.
