Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)

At no charge, trained volunteers will assist area seniors (age 60 and older) with both federal and Maryland income tax returns.

Those with complex types of income, such as rental or farm income are advised to consult a paid tax preparer, as are those whose income exceeds $40,000 per year.  Tax season will run from February 4, 2008 through April 15, 2008.

Eligibility Requirements

• 60 years of age or older
• Annual income not exceeding $40,000
• No farm rents 
• No rental income
• Simple tax forms only

In 2007, VITA volunteers assisted more than 320 people with their taxes.
