DESCRIPTION:
The Frederick County Government, Division of Internal Audit, has an excellent internship opportunity during the school year, and/or during winter and summer breaks. This internship will provide college students who are interested in a career in auditing with hands-on experience in conducting audits in a government environment and obtaining an understanding of Government Auditing Standards. The interns will assist audit staff in conducting internal audits of Frederick County Government, the Frederick County Public Schools and Frederick Community College. Supervision and on-the-job training will be received from staff auditors, the Senior Auditor, and the Team Leader.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Assists in:
× Conducting a risk analysis of an audit area to identify those functions having the highest risk that are to be included in the audit
× Preparing and completing an audit program which the auditor uses to evaluate internal controls and analyze data to determine compliance with policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and whether desired program results are being achieved
× Using statistical sampling and data mining software tools
× Preparing flowcharts and narratives that describe the operations and internal controls of the assigned audit area
× Giving oral presentations to management on the audit results and recommendations
× Preparing work papers and written reports that explains audit work done related to the audit objectives, identifies findings, and recommends management action to improve operations, strengthen internal controls, and reduce costs
× Appraising the adequacy of corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
× Accounting, Finance, Management, or Business Administration Major
× Completion of Accounting courses thru Intermediate Accounting
× Minimum G.P.A of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
× Strong verbal and written communication skills
× Strong analytical skills
× Ability to provide own transportation to various audit sites
